This is a free, non-proctored certification test for Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0. It can be a good preparation exam for that industry standard Sun Certified Business Component Developer 5 or SCBCD 5 Certification (CX-310-091). While the company that offers this free certification appears to be a non-authorized Sun Prometric Testing Center, it does claim to work with Prometric.
Before taking the exam, please consider first the advantages and limitations of this free certification test.
Free Enterprise JavaBeans Certification Test
The major limitation of this free Enterprise Java Beans certification is that it is a non-proctored online exam.
Obviously, its main advantage is that it offers a free practice exam with a sure certification; provided, however, that the exam taker passes it.
It is a must though that all test takers should comply with the terms and conditions of the certifications provider. Otherwise, the certification and membership in the website can be forfeited.
The free Enterprise JavaBeans exam has the following sections:
- Architecture
- Design and Development
- Message-Driven Beans
- Session Beans
- Deployment and Integration
- Entities and Java Persistence API
- Security
- Transactions
The above sections are fairly covered considering that this is offered for free.
Proctored Versus Non-Proctored Certification Tests
Again, this is a non-proctored test taken under time pressure. This simply means that the test taker is not supervised while taking the exam. The downside of a non-proctored exam is that certain critics claim that it lacks integrity. They argue that a nearby professional can assist the test taker during the exam.
A good counter-argument for this kind of objection though is that this can be easily resolved because it is an online test. This simply means that potential employers will have the capability to require the job applicant to take the test again in their presence.
In a different light, the company that provides this test for free explains that the questions here were designed by specialists. The test creation process depends on a questions bank where random questions are retrieved, displayed and administered. Therefore, every test, even when taken repeatedly, will each have a different set of questions. However, several questions here and there will likely be the same as examinees take the exam again and again.
Note that repetition can be a great advantage rather than a limitation because important concepts, when pondered repeatedly, can be easily mastered.
Meanwhile, proctored tests are still the accepted standard. These are traditionally given with the supervision of authorized professionals to prevent cheating and ensure the integrity of the certifications process.
In order to demonstrate honesty and professionalism, job applicants with this certification should present this in their resumé under the subheading Non-Proctored Certifications together with their Proctored Certification if they have any. These two types of certifications must be clearly distinguished in the resumé to prevent any misrepresentation.
The certifications company featured here, Brainbench offers other free certifications and paid practice tests at $25 each. It also has some 568 paid certification tests for $49.95.
Mike Littman, Brainbench's marketing vice president asserts that they have: "...over 6 million members" and work "...with Booz Allen Hamilton, CACI, EDS, Ford Motor Company, H&R Block, IBM, Interwoven, JPMorgan, Kaiser Permanente, Manpower, Prometric, SAIC, Siemens, TAC Worldwide, U.S. Government Agencies, Verizon, and Wells Fargo..." among other companies.
Littman's claims are unverified.
